FILM MAKER

Miranda has always held a strong vision for a visual aesthetic. Growing up, she wasn’t much interested in television, yet she always eagerly anticipated the annual Banff Mountain Film Festival when it came to Thunder Bay.

In 2017, it became apparent to Miranda that if she wanted to continue to capture the attention of young audiences in broader, more impactful manner, it would be helpful to have the skills of a filmmaker. Currie rode the learning curve and made a few amateur films. It wasn’t until the limitations of the COVID pandemic forced her to pivot away from live performance, that she decided to seek mentorship to improve her craft.

In 2019, she was accepted to the Banff Mountain Film Festival Adventure Filmmaking Workshop and later that year, the National Screen Institute’s IndigiDocs Program. With the guidance and mentorship of several different mentors Miranda was able to create her first ten-minute short documentary called Tails on Ice, which premiered at the Cannes Short Film Festival in France.

In late 2019, Miranda founded and incorporated her production company CuRiouS CoNNectionS. As a filmmaker, Miranda uses her experience as an indigenous land-based educator and wilderness guide to make outdoor adventure films that are accessible to children and families.
